Referee frequently asked questions

Q: How do I become a referee?
A: You must attend a United States Soccer Federation Soccer Referee Clinic.
Q: What does the clinic cost?
A: The entry level 09 clinic fee is $60.00 payable by check or cash.
Q: Must I purchase a uniform and equipment?
A: Yes all USSF referees are required to purchase and wear a USSF uniform consisting of a gold referee jersey, black shorts, black socks with 3 white stripes, black shoes, a wrist watch, red and yellow cards, flags, pencil or pen, a flipping coin and game reports.
Q: When is the next entry level clinic?
A: Look on the front page of this website for dates to the next clinic.
Q: Do I need training every year?
A: Yes, every referee must attend a re-certification clinic before you are allowed to referee during the coming year.
Q: What is the cost to re-register every year?
A: It depends on your referee grade.
Q: What is the pay?
A: The pay depends on the age group that you referee. Pay range is from $7.00 for U6 games to $30.00 for U19.
